I’m still alive…

…honest I am!

I know it has been a while since I posted anything. Mostly that’s because I haven’t done anything that I thought worth posting about!

I decided to take the opportunity to give the page a bit of a facelift (well ok I upgraded Wordpress and installed a new theme) so some of the stuff here might seem a bit unfinished for a while until I get things properly tidied up.

Seeing as it’s been a while since my last post, I thought that now would be a good time to give a quick rundown of some of the things I’ve been doing since the release of the xbox port of Quake 3.

First off I spent some time trying to improve the OpenXDK. I was working on an xbox specific port of the gcc toolchain as well as trying to get some form of hardware accelerated 2D video. Needless to say this didn’t get finished, and the little headway I had made into hw accel video has been wildly surpassed by a chap by the name of openxdkman.

Following that I thought I’d have a bash at N64 emulation on the xbox by attempting to port Mupen64. To begin with things seemed quite promising but alas it wasn’t to be. Mupen turned out to be very memory hungry, unfortunately it needed just too much for the poor old xbox.

Alongside all of that I continued to tinker with my xbox port of ScummVM, keeping it updated for my own use. There was no real reason why I didn’t release it - I just never seemed to get around to it.

All of the above was made difficult at times because my xbox up and died on me. It was the original v1.0 that I got on launch day (in the UK). I have another xbox but it wasn’t ideal to use for developing - I used it for XBMC and didn’t really want to haul it away from the TV. So I was out of action for a while until I managed to get hold of an xbox debug kit.

Other than that I’ve been spending some time away from most things xbox related (well xbox 1 anyway).

I’ve been keeping an interested eye on anything pertaining to homebrew on the 360. XNA is a nice start from Microsoft but I think the subscription cost is a little high for the majority of hobbyist developers. If a hack is ever forthcoming then I think the 360 scene will be a very interesting place to be…

Please, try port Quakeworld or FuhQuake, EzQuake
to XBOX

This PC .exe files mod had features like bunny hops
and too many users active in free servers

Thanks!

Hi there,

great to see that you’re still alive. Without trying to sound pushy or anything… but should you ever decide to release an updated version of your scummvm xbox port, I am sure a lot of people would be really greatful for that - including me ;) A lot of improvements and new stuff has been added since the last release and if you already got a compile as you say it’s just a matter of releasing it. Long story short: You would make me very happy by doing so.

Greets…

Hi!

Carcharius, do you ever see yourself re-visiting Spextrum? It would be great to see options such as save states and other UI features like screen resizing etc applied to this superb emulator.

Cheers chap!

you are violating GPL by releasing the binary without the source

hi,

new scummvm release 0.11.0 has been released. if you should get around to updating the port and compiling it people would greatly appreciate it if you could also release it. just put it on a major p2p-platform and that should do the trick.

thanks a lot.

Am I going mad, or does your 0.11svn build not support video or COMI? The Dig jumps straight to the game for me (skipping cutscenes) and COMI drops to what smells like a debugging console

How did you make the game quake 3 run on xbox? will you ever port other games? plz port NFS2, NFS3 and NFS3, and NFS Porsche Unleashed for XBox. They are PC games that are meant to run with 32mb of ram so they be fine on Xbox :)

Too bad you are leaving the xbox scene…well, everybody else is doing it so why can´t you? I love ScummVM and you did a great job porting it to xbox. Since you are keeping it updated for your own use like you said please release it to us, ordinary users. And one more request, is there any chance for a modern theme version release?

Hello not to be a pain in the ass but your Quake3 Xbox port totaly sweet. I love the idea that you made it so xbox controllers work. But I use a keyboard and mouse on my xbox. Usb/apple keyboard and Usb Ms optical mouse. I was cerious If I offered a 50 dollar cash reward to make it so the keys are mappable would that be something you would be interested in? The keyboard fully works in the console asdf etc etc. But I can not map them to binding for real controls. I would play the crap out of q3 on my xbox if I could do this. Since your the programmer you know that the number pad keys are bindable and the shift control etc etc just the main keys. I have a felling its because they have been remaped to the controller. If its not to hard and does not take much time I would glady front you 50 bucks for your time if you sent me the modfied xbe for quake3 that will allow usb keyboards to work. If it does take a lot of time and effort let me know if you got 2 minutes. Otherwise ill paypal ya 50 bucks for that quake3.xbe that works with usb keyboards! Thanks Ling :)
